2026 BECE Results Officially Released WAEC Announces Provisional Scores and Details Next Steps for Candidates

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results for candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.

The release marks a crucial milestone for hundreds of thousands of candidates nationwide, paving the way for the upcoming Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) phase managed by the Ghana Education Service (GES).

1. Key Statistics from the 2026 BECE

This year’s examination witnessed substantial national participation across basic schools:

• Total Candidates Registered: 620,243 candidates.

• Gender Breakdown: 304,415 males and 315,828 females.

• Participating Schools: 20,789 schools across the country.

• Absenteeism: 3,601 candidates were recorded absent during the examination period.

2. Examination Irregularities and Withheld Results

Following investigations into cases detected during the examination and script-marking stages, the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee approved specific disciplinary sanctions:

• Entire Results Cancelled: 105 candidates.

• Subject Results Cancelled: 496 candidates.

• Subject Results Withheld: 2,722 candidates from 229 schools.

• Entire Results Withheld Pending Investigation: 48 candidates.

According to WAEC, withheld results or pending investigations will either be released or cancelled based on the conclusion of ongoing reviews by August 31, 2026.

3. How Candidates Can Check Their Results

Candidates wishing to access their provisional results online can do so through the official WAEC results portal using their result checkers.

Checking Status of Withheld or Cancelled Results:

• Affected candidates can visit http://irreg.waecgh.gh to check specific reasons or required next steps regarding withheld or cancelled papers.

• School heads and proprietors can log into their institutional dashboards using their results listing credentials to verify candidate statuses.

4. Important Advisory Against Result Scams

WAEC has strongly cautioned candidates, parents, and the general public against fraudsters and unauthorized individuals claiming they can upgrade or alter examination scores for a fee. The Council emphasized that official results are secure, verifiable, and fully authenticated through official channels.

Physical copies of school results are being dispatched to respective schools via Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education.
